Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 6, 2026

Align Counsel Professional Corporation ("Align Counsel", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information with transparency and care. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit our website at www.aligncounsel.ca (the "Site") or otherwise contact us, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have.

As a law firm, we are also bound by our professional obligations of client confidentiality and solicitor-client privilege, which complement this policy. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA) and other applicable privacy laws.

By using our Site, you accept the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the Site.

Our Site may contain links to third-party websites or services. Those third parties have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any website you visit.

What Personal Information We Collect

"Personal information" means information about an identifiable individual. It does not include business contact information such as your name, title, or business phone number. We collect two main types:

  • Information you give us directly. When you complete the contact form on our Site or otherwise contact us, we collect your name, email address, company (if provided), the type of legal service you are interested in, and any details you include in your message. We use this only to respond to your inquiry and, where appropriate, to provide legal services.
  • Information collected automatically. When you visit our Site, we and our service providers automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at and move through the Site. We collect this through cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics (described below).

Please do not send us confidential or time-sensitive information through the Site until we have confirmed we can act for you. Contacting us does not by itself create a solicitor-client relationship.

Cookies and Analytics

Our Site uses only a limited number of cookies and similar technologies. Our website is hosted through a third-party content-delivery and security provider that may set cookies necessary to deliver the Site reliably and to protect it. You can set your browser to refuse some or all cookies, but parts of the Site may not work properly if you do.

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors interact with our Site. Google Analytics uses cookies (small files stored on your device) to collect information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your approximate geographic location, and how you arrived at our Site. This information is transmitted to and stored by Google on servers that may be located outside Canada, and Google may use it in accordance with its own privacy policy. We use Google Analytics only to understand and improve our Site in aggregate, not to identify you individually.

To opt out of Google Analytics, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) or adjust your browser’s cookie settings. Google’s privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Our Site also displays fonts provided by Google Fonts (a service of Google LLC). When a page loads, your browser requests these fonts from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address as part of that request. Google may process this information in accordance with its privacy policy, available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information we collect to:

  • respond to your inquiries and provide the legal services you request;
  • operate, maintain, and improve our Site;
  • send you updates or communications you have asked to receive; you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails or by emailing info@aligncounsel.ca;
  • meet our legal, regulatory, and professional obligations; and
  • protect our rights and the security of our Site.

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only as needed to operate our firm and provide legal services, and only in limited circumstances, including:

  • with service providers (such as our website host, our analytics provider, and our font provider) who are required to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us;
  • to comply with a court order, law, or regulatory or legal requirement;
  • in connection with a sale, merger, or reorganization of our firm, under appropriate confidentiality protections; and
  • with your consent.

As a law firm, we do not disclose information protected by solicitor-client privilege unless the privilege is lawfully waived or we are required by law to disclose it.

How We Protect Your Information

We use physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. Where we use service providers to handle personal information, we require them to provide comparable protection. No method of transmitting information over the Internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, and any transmission is at your own risk.

If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and report the breach to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as required by PIPEDA.

How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes we collected it, to meet our legal, accounting, and professional obligations, including the record-keeping requirements of the Law Society of Ontario, and to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements. We then delete or anonymize it.

Your Choices and Rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for access to the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete; and
  • withdraw your consent to our use of your personal information, subject to legal or contractual restrictions (this may affect our ability to provide a service).

To exercise any of these rights, contact our Privacy Officer using the details below. We may need to verify your identity, and some information may be subject to legal exceptions, such as information protected by solicitor-client privilege, information about another individual, or information connected to a dispute-resolution process.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page, update the "last updated" date above, and provide notice of material changes. Please review this policy periodically.

We welcome your questions, concerns, and requests about this policy or your personal information. Our Privacy Officer is accountable for our compliance with this policy and applicable privacy laws.
